Iowa Treasurer Roby Smith presents Council Bluffs Mayor with a check from Great Iowa Treasure Hunt.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA - Today, Iowa State Treasurer Roby Smith returned unclaimed property to the City of Council Bluffs through the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt as part of his 99 county tour.

State Treasurer Smith presented the check to Mayor Jill Shudak, highlighting the state’s ongoing effort to reconnect Iowa‘s citizens, businesses and public organizations with their missing money.

“Every dollar we return is a win for Iowans,” said Treasurer Smith. “Great Iowa Treasure Hunt is all about making sure money goes back where it belongs. I’m proud to be able to return these funds to Council Bluffs and encourage everyone to check and see if they have unclaimed property waiting for them at GreatIowaTreasureHunt.gov.”

The Great Iowa Treasure Hunt program, administered by the State Treasurer’s Office, holds unclaimed property until it can be returned to individuals, businesses or local governments. Each year, millions of dollars are distributed back to rightful owners across the state.

Iowans are encouraged to search their name, their business or even family members to see if they have unclaimed funds. Claims can be filed online at GreatIowaTreasureHunt.gov.
